NEC-SFU Native Basketball Festival Registration is Open

We are pleased to announce that registration for the NEC-SFU Native Basketball Festival is now open.

We are teaming up with SFU to introduce our second basketball tourney, this year called the “NEC-SFU Native Basketball Festival” taking place May 20-22, 2016 at Simon Fraser University, the Lorne Davis Complex, Burnaby, BC.

There is a thirty-two team cap to the Festival so please register quickly as we think the spots may sell out! Here are the divisions:

8 Youth 18 yrs and under (4 boys, 4 girls teams)
8 Women’s SR
8 Men’s SR
4 Masters
4 Coed Adult

Trophies/Prizes/Awards
Cultural entertainment
Free youth basketball clinic
Official referees
Arts, culture & resource fair
Festival feature court games and performances livestreamed by ViaSport media- NBA level quality with camera crew of 4!

$200 early bird registration fee by Feb 15th 2016
$250 regular entry fee

Exception rule:

Masters division open
All other divisions are a permitted 2 non-Aboriginal exception players. However, if a team has more than 2 non-Aboriginal players the team is invited to write a letter to the NEC-SFU Festival Committee to seek permission to have up to 5 non-Aboriginal players on their roster. Teams with more than 2 non-Aboriginal players must submit this letter by February 15th with their team rosters due by March 1st. The purpose of this rule is to promote inclusivity for closeknit teams that practice year round with more than 2 non-Aboriginal players.
